No obstante, con su placa producida por la propia Madonna, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland y Nate "Danja" Hills, a partir de un estilo de hip hop con influencias de R&B contemporáneo, la cantante provocó críticas dispares de los medios especializados, pero siguió en su conquista del gusto del público.
Como a la fecha lo ha mostrado con sus sencillos "4 minutes", en el cual participa el también cantante Justin Timberlake con diversos versos; así como "Give it 2 me" y "Miles away", por citar algunos.
La cantante estadunidense, Katy Perry es otra de las intérpretes que captó la atención de los seguidores de la escena del rock pop, con el lanzamiento de "One of the boys", su álbum debut que en su semana de estreno se ubicó en la posición número nueve del "Billboard 200" en Estados Unidos, con ventas mayores a las 47 mil copias.
Con este lanzamiento, Perry resaltó a través de su propuesta con influencias de música no sólo pop, sino también dance y electrónica, pero más por el contenido de sus canciones, según sus seguidores, ya que abordan temas ligados a la provocación, homosexualidad y sexualidad.
"Ur so gay" fue uno de los temas que causó controversia por su letra, incluso la propia Madonna declaró en dos programas de la radio estadunidense que era su canción preferida del momento.
Asimismo, destacó "I kissed a girl", corte que causó revuelo acerca de la posible bisexualidad o lesbianismo de la cantante. Estos son algunos de los sencillos que se desprendieron de dicho álbum.
Por su parte, la banda estadunidense de heavy metal, Metallica, se ubicó entre las más destacadas del año con el lanzamiento de su noveno álbum de estudio, "Death magnetic", en septiembre pasado.

Además de ser la primera producción discográfica de la banda con el bajista Robert Trujillo, y el primer álbum producido por Rick Rubin, este último quien suplió a Bob Rock, con dicho puesto desde hace más de 15 años.
Algo que hizo notar un poco más a "Death magnetic", fue que se utilizó el logotipo original de la agrupación, mismo que reemplazó al que la banda venía presentando en sus anteriores trabajos desde 1995.
En "Death magnetic", Metallica ofrece su legendario sonido, tal y como las baterías del "Master of puppets", además del tema instrumental "Suicide & redemption", al estilo de "The call of ktulu", "Orion" y "To live is to die", como así lo informó en su momento a la prensa, el guitarrista Kirk Hammett.
De igual forma, la agrupación británica Oasis, se sumó al listado, ya que después de tres años, regresó a la escena musical con el lanzamiento en octubre pasado de su séptimo álbum, "Dig out your soul".

La banda de hard rock australiana, AC/DC, fue otra de las agrupaciones que en 2008 llamó la atención en la escena del rock, ya que después de ocho años, regresó a la escena musical con el lanzamiento de "Black ice", su décima quinta placa discográfica.
Esta producción de la agrupación fundada en 1973, salió al mercado el pasado 17 de octubre, tras la publicación de "Stiff upper lip" en 2000, lo que también resaltó entre estos sus dos álbumes de estudio hasta la fecha.
De igual forma, "Black ice" logró cinco millones y medio de copias vendidas, además de debutar número uno en 29 países, entre los que están: Estados Unidos, Inglaterra, Canadá, Australia, Francia, Japón, Italia y Alemania.
El álbum producido por Brendan O"Brien y grabado y mezclado por Mike Fraser en The Warehouse Studio de Vancouver, Canadá, mantiene en promoción "Rock n" roll train", primer sencillo que se ha colocado en el gusto del público seguidor de esta escena musical.
Resultado de dicho lanzamiento, AC/DC inició una gira mundial que obedece al nombre de su nueva placa, la cual continuará hasta el 23 de abril de 2009 en Birmingham, Reino Unido.
A su vez, la intérprete estadunidense Christina Aguilera, se colocó en el listado triunfal gracias a su más reciente y primera producción recopilatoria "Keeps gettin" better - a decade of hits", misma que lanzó el pasado 10 de noviembre y que ofrece los éxitos que la han consolidado en el público, además de dos temas nuevos: "Keeps gettin" better" y "Dynamite".

"Chinese democracy" se enmarcó como el primer álbum de estudio después del lanzamiento en 1993 de "The spaghetti incident?", además de ser el primero con temas originales de la banda después de los lanzamientos simultáneos de "Use your illusion I" y "Use your illusion II" en 1991.

Con este nuevo álbum, Britney, retornó a los escenarios tras una turbulenta vida privada con visitas a la corte por la custodia de sus dos hijos, quienes quedaron en tutela de su ex esposo, Kevin Federline, e ingresos a centros de rehabilitación.
Considerada una de las artistas más vendedoras de la última década, con más de 62 millones de copias alrededor del mundo por títulos como "Baby one more time" (1999), "Oops!. I did It again" (2000), "Britney" (2001), "In the zone" (2003) y "Blackout" (2007), el nuevo CD de la intérprete salió tras cuatro años de esporádicas actuaciones en vivo y de no realizar una gira de conciertos.
Actualmente, la ganadora de dos premios MTV Europe Music Awards, en las categorías de Mejor Album del Año por "Blackout" y Mejor Artista 2008, además de ser ganadora en las categorías de Video del Año, Mejor Artista Femenina y Mejor Video Pop por "Piece of me" en los MTV VMA Awards, promociona su segundo sencillo "Circus".
